8 June 2018

The PBF held a Ministerial networking lunch on 8 June at the Cape Town Hotel School Granger Bay campus of CPUT.

This combined event held in close cooperation and in association with the Hotel School of CPUT, was addressed by the Minister of Tourism, Hon Derek Hanekom. The attendees included the Hon Joan Fubbs, MP, the Hon Freddie Adams, MP; the leadership of the School, business representatives from various disciplines including the tourist industry and post graduate students from the School.

The Convenor of the PBF, Daryl Swanepoel opened the event held in the auditorium and remarks of welcome and support to the some 60 guests, were made by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof Green, and Ms Silo, head of the SETH of the School. Minister Hanekom spoke powerfully of the role of tourism in South Africa, and indeed of the importance of the School for the enhancement of tourism for our country. He highlighted the extent of the revenue garnered for our country from tourism and of the need to facilitate tourism into our country for that purpose.

A lively question and answer session followed which saw significant interaction and engagement of business and students with the Minister.

A vote of thanks was expressed to the Minister by the Director of the School, Mr Thembisile Molose who encouraged ongoing engagement with all those present in the room.

After the formalities, the guests networked informally in the dining room over a finger lunch, catered for by the students of the Hotel School.
